Will I Need a Car when I Visit Laguna Beach?

As Laguna Beach encompasses less than nine square miles, navigating throughout the community doesn’t necessarily require a vehicle. More than a dozen parking lots are available, enabling guests to park vehicles for various fees so they can enjoy the community on foot. There are also a variety of transportation options if you prefer not to walk or drive. Laguna Beach Public Transportation

Free trolleys are a great way to tour and become familiar with the community. When people need to travel to a particular location from various hotels in Laguna Beach, free on-demand ride services are also available. Otherwise, you have the option of using a rideshare service such as Lyft or Uber. New users need merely enter VISITLAGUNA for a Lyft or VISITLAGUNABEACH for an Uber to receive ride discounts.

The Orange County Transportation Authority, or OCTA, buses are budget-friendly options when desiring to travel from one city to another. Bus routes commonly include various Orange County attractions and area train stations. Laguna Beach also has a variety of bike rental companies available.

Trolley Routes—September through June

The Coastal Trolley travels south from the Coast Highway to the Ritz Carlton and north from the Coast Highway to Cliff Drive on the following days and times (unless otherwise noted):

Monday through Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The Active V Shuttle service offers free rides from the Lot 16 parking area to the downtown area each weekend on:

Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

During the summer, transportation is also provided until 11:30 p.m., seven days a week, every 20 to 30 minutes when art festivals and other special downtown events occur.

On-Demand Neighborhood Transportation

The Laguna Beach service vehicles accommodate up to seven passengers and are available in Arch Beach Heights, Bluebird Canyon, Top of the World, and downtown. The transportation offers pickups and drop-offs at 75 different locations, including area businesses, government services offices, non-emergency medical care facilities, restaurants, and retailers.

Request a ride by downloading the TransLoc app and locating Laguna Beach Local. The app displays current local transportation service information. You can also call the dispatch service at 949-497-0766. The free service may be requested up to one week in advance. Otherwise, a vehicle arrives in 15 to 20 minutes after the request. After placing a ride request, you’ll be provided with the appropriate nearby pickup location.

Service is available:

Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Friday and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Neighborhood transportation isn’t available on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, or New Year’s Day.
