What is The California Wine Festival?
Did you know? California’s rich wine history dates back to 1683 when the first ever recorded planting took place. You know a state loves their wine when they produce an estimated 90% of all American wines. In fact, if it were its own country, California would be 4th on the list of the largest wine producers in the world.
The California Wine Festival started back in 2004 for wine enthusiasts to gather together and enjoy a weekend of indulgence. The event promotes the diversity of both California cuisine and wine, giving the event-goers a great experience with good food, good wine, and even better company.
The festival will be held in multiple places over California, and will showcase a wide variety of red, white, and rosé wines, as well as sparkling wines and champagnes from the different wine-making regions in the country.
The 2023 California Wine Festival at Dana Point will be on April 14th and 15th, 2023. The first day will be held at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort & Spa, and the second at the Sea Terrace Park.
What to expect during the event
So before coming down to enjoy the event, here is a basic outline of what to expect for the two days in Dana Point’s Wine festival.
First Day
The first evening will be a “Sunset Rare & Reserve Tasting”. This is where guests are able to enjoy some wine with fellow wine lovers with the night starting off with a sparkling wine reception. The whole evening will have some samples from extremely difficult to obtain trophy wines, as well as tasting room exclusives and bottles with limited production number.
These come from vineyards located in Sonoma County, Napa Valley, Temecula, Santa Barbara, Paso Robles, and more. Along with this, some of the top culinary talent in the region will serve some appetizers both hot and cold to pair with your top-shelf drinks.
Every Sunset Rare & Reserve Tasting will always have a picturesque view of the coast, and is definitely one of the better ways to end the day and welcome the night.
Second Day
The next half of Dana Point’s wine festival is the will be spent beachside under the bright spring sun with the day’s events focusing mainly on educating guests on the culinary culture of the region.
It will be a daytime affair where guests can learn about the wine-making process, the history of California wineries, and how to properly pair wine with different foods from representatives from some of California’s most esteemed wineries and restaurants.
Regional craft beers will also be available during the event for those who want to sample something other than wine. There will also be a live band playing during the event as you enjoy the breathtaking views in Dana Point while sipping on some of California’s best wines.
